The text

Stanza 1

I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,

Mujhe phir se samundar ke paas jana hoga, tanha samundar aur aasman ki taraf,

And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by;

Aur sab kuch jo main maangta hoon wo ek lambi kashti hai aur ek sitara jo ise rasta dekhaye;

And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,

Aur pahiya ka jhatka aur hawa ka geet aur safed badban/paal ka hilna,

And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking.

Aur samundar ke chehre par ek grey dhund, aur subah ke grey ujale ka phatna.

Stanza 2

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide

Mujhe phir se samundar ke paas jana hoga, kyunki behte huye lehar ki pukar

Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;

Ek jungli pukar hai aur ek wazeh pukar hai jo mana nahi ki ja sakti;

And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,

Aur sab kuch jo main maangta hoon wo ek hawadar din hai jisme safed badal ur rahay hain,

And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

Aur uchhli hui chhidk aur udti hui jhaag, aur samundari gull ka cheekhna.

Stanza 3

I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,

Mujhe phir se samundar ke paas jana hoga, aawara gypsy zindagi ki taraf,

To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife;

Jahan hawayein ek tez chaku ki tarah hoti hain;

And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,

Aur sab kuch jo main maangta hoon wo ek hansne wale saathi se ek khushi bhari kahani hai,

And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.

Aur itne lambe kaam ke baad aaram se sona aur ek meetha khwab.
